Day 1 Continued- Akihabara, Harajuku and Meiji Temple

Electronic and geek center of Tokyo.

This only captures 1/100th of the people out on the streets.

How Japanese is this?

Guy rocking out to some form of Guitar Hero.  It was about 8.58am when we ran into a 5 story arcade and decided to play a couple games.  Even though the store didn't open until 9am, there was already a line starting to form.  One guy in particular was so impatient, that he nudged his way to the front and pressed his face the glass.  As soon as the doors open, he ran in.  It reminded me of the old Mervyns commercial with the woman up against glass door.

Ron playing a shooting game.  Look at the weapons on his fighter jet.  Have you ever seen anything like that before?  What about the joy on his face?  Too funny.
Yes, that is a man.

More cos play in Harajuku Square.

Art installation of sake jars in Meiji Temple.

Meiji Temple Tori.

So funny story.  We are sheep.  We wanted to check out the Meiji Temple on a Sunday afternoon.  We followed the people and the path through to the front.  Part way there, the path was blocked by a sea of people.  We just thought that it was the line to get into the temple.  We had no idea how long it was or how far the front was but since everyone else was waiting, we decided to stick around.  Little did we know that over 2 million people visit the this particular temple over New Years.  By the time we realized how long the line actually was, we figured we might as well see it through.  I must admit, the line was deceiving, as it was moving at a decent pace.   3 feet every few minutes or so.  Little did we know that when we got to the "front" it rounded the corner and we still had the same distance to cover.  We finally made it to the front, passed through the gate and made our New Years wish.  I really hope 2010 is an amazing year since we waited about 3 hours to make it happen!

We were so tired from walking around all day and the jet lag that we both passed out by 8pm.  Yet another night without dinner.

Day 1 in Tokyo

This was our first full day in Tokyo.
Cat walking down one of the many alley ways in Asakusa.

Machine that makes the little fish shaped pancakes filled with red bean paste.   Red bean is VERY popular in Japanese snacks and sweets.

The most stylish dog we've encountered in Japan.

Cat shaking the fortune box.  Fortune = 100 yen.  Good fortune in marriage and work = priceless.
(Btw, howshiny is my hair??)

One must purify the body and soul before entering the temple.

So many snacks.  Wish we took a photo of the fresh, straight off the oven, dipped in soy sauce cracker that we bought.  It was so good we ate it too quickly.  Even better were the fried mochi balls (green tea and the sesame were the best).

Finally, a photo of Ron!

Can't be in Japan without taking a photo of the coy fish.

Cat and Hello Kitty.  All she wanted to buy was a Hello Kitty keychain.

Ron was really excited about Final Fantasy stuff.  Yeah, I just called it stuff.

Machine where you order your noodles.

Cat's food.  I said Cat's, not cat food.  Udon noodles with beef and leeks on top.

Ron's food.  Some kind of bacon with rice and soba noodles in broth.
